Evidential archiving

Evidential archiving stores electronic documents so that, years later, you can prove they have not been altered since they were filed.

It relies on integrity, timestamped deposits, traceability of every operation and durable formats. In France, the NF Z42-013 standard, whose international equivalent is ISO 14641, sets out the requirements for such a system. Archiving adds no value to a document: it preserves the value it had.

Why it matters for fax

A printed transmission report that gets lost proves nothing. Keeping the document sent and its proof of sending in a reliable archive, or at the very least together and unaltered, is what lets you use them on the day of a dispute.
