The faxed document

Fax to email

Fax to email is a service that receives the faxes sent to a number and forwards them by email, usually as a PDF attachment.

The fax number is assigned by the provider and ends at a server rather than a machine. Each fax received is converted into a file and sent to one or more addresses. This is the principle behind so-called virtual fax numbers, which let you receive faxes without a fax machine or dedicated line.

Why it matters for fax

Receiving becomes an email like any other, with its advantages, archiving and search, and its risks: shared mailboxes, automatic forwarding, attachments opened anywhere. For sensitive documents, the question is no longer the line but the security of the mailbox.
