Fax explained
Sending a fax with an acknowledgment of receipt: what you get, and what it proves
A fax leaves a trace that an email does not. You still need to know which one, and to keep it in a form you can produce on the day someone disputes that you sent it.
Short answer
On this site, sending a one-page fax remains free and unlimited; the acknowledgment of receipt is an option at €3.99 incl. VAT, charged only if the fax goes out. It provides two PDFs: the acknowledgment of your request and the transmission acknowledgment, time-stamped in Paris time and bearing a unique number. They prove when and to whom the fax was sent, not that the document was read.
Getting the acknowledgment, in four steps
- 1
Fill in the form
Recipient, sender, subject, French fax number and PDF. The subject and names you enter are the ones printed on the acknowledgment: choose a reference you will recognise in your files, such as a contract or case number.
- 2
Choose the option
It is offered during the countdown before confirmation, and again on the page of your fax. Nothing is pre-ticked: if you do not choose it, the fax is sent in exactly the same way, without an acknowledgment.
- 3
Confirm the sending
When you choose the option, the payment is only authorised. It is charged once the fax has been sent; if the sending does not take place, nothing is taken.
- 4
Download and file
Both acknowledgments arrive by email and can be downloaded from the page of your fax. Save them alongside the PDF you sent: the acknowledgment describes the sending, the document proves what was in it.
What an acknowledgment does not prove
Not that the document was read, not its content, not that the number was the right one. The transmission acknowledgment states that the fax was transmitted to the number entered, on the date and at the time shown; it does not reproduce the document and does not say that anyone read it. A fax machine's technical report has the same limits: it shows that a machine answered, nothing more. So check the number on the recipient's official website, keep the PDF you sent and, when a rule requires registered post, use it.
Frequently asked questions
- Isn't the confirmation email enough?
- It is free and confirms that your fax has gone out. But it is an email, with no acknowledgment number, in an inbox that may change or disappear. The PDF acknowledgments are standalone documents: sender, recipient, fax number, subject, number of pages, status, time of the request and of the transmission, under a unique number in the form EFG-year-reference.
- How much does the acknowledgment of receipt cost?
- €3.99 incl. VAT for both documents, whatever the number of pages in the fax. It is separate from the price of sending: a one-page fax stays free, with or without an acknowledgment, and a document of two pages or more costs €3.99 incl. VAT to send, with the acknowledgment on top if you choose it.
- Can I get the acknowledgment after sending?
- Yes. The option remains available on the page of your fax, linked from the confirmation email. The acknowledgments are then charged straight away, since the fax has already gone out, and emailed to you.
