Fax explained
Sending a fax to France from abroad: from any country, to a French number
You live outside France, but your pension fund, your notary or your tax office stayed there. To fax them a document you need neither a fax machine nor a phone line: the service dials the number for you.
Short answer
The form works in a browser, from any country, and sends only to French numbers. Enter the number in national format: ten digits starting with 01 to 05 or 09, without +33 or 0033, which the form rejects. You pay for no international call: a one-page fax is free and unlimited, and a document of two pages or more costs €3.99 incl. VAT.
Faxing a French organisation from abroad, in four steps
- 1
Find the right number
On the organisation's official website or on the letter it sent you, on the day you send. A French fax number starts with 01 to 05 or 09; 06 and 07 are mobiles and 08 numbers are special-rate: the form does not accept them.
- 2
Enter it in national format
Your address book may show +33 1 23 45 67 89. Remove +33 and put the 0 back: 01 23 45 67 89. Spaces, dots and dashes are ignored; a country code, on the other hand, makes the number invalid.
- 3
Aim for French business hours
France runs on Paris time: UTC+1 in winter, UTC+2 in summer. A fax arrives at any hour, but one received on a Friday evening is often not dealt with until Monday: aim for a working day, during office hours, Paris time.
- 4
Keep proof
The PDF acknowledgments are time-stamped in Paris time, which removes any time-zone ambiguity about the date of sending. Optional, €3.99 incl. VAT, charged only if the fax goes out.
To France, not to the rest of the world
This guide covers sending to a French number, whatever country you are in. Faxing someone outside France is a different question — dialling a foreign number and finding a service that covers that country — dealt with in the guide “Sending a fax abroad”; this site does not do it. Payment for a multi-page document or for acknowledgments is made by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use the service from Morocco, Canada or the United States?
- Yes. It requires no sign-up, no phone number and no address in France: a browser, an email address and a PDF are enough. Only the recipient is restricted: their number must be French.
- Which organisations are most often involved?
- Pension funds (life certificates, case documents), the tax office for non-residents, notaries handling an estate or a sale, banks, courts and lawyers. Always check on their official website that they accept faxes and note the number given: many now favour an online account.
- Does sending from abroad cost more?
- No. The price depends only on the number of pages: a one-page fax is free and unlimited, a document of two pages or more costs €3.99 incl. VAT, and PDF acknowledgments are an option at €3.99 incl. VAT. No international call is billed: the service dials the French number.
Send a fax now
The form fits on one page: a PDF, a recipient and a return address. No account, no card: one-page faxes are free and unlimited.
